The finish is medium to long, rather oaky and dry, aromatic, slightly bitter, on herb liquor, camphor, some dried meat, humus, mineral oil, smoke and a slight peatiness.
Impression: Tasted head to head with the 6 YO, this Prestonfield was more heavy on the wood and less elegant and subtle. Very good but it suffered probably from the comparison. From the same batch as the Dun Eideann, but drier and less balanced.

Glen Mhor 6 YO (Mackinlay), OB, 75 Proof, B: 1960s. Price:
Colour: Straw
Nose: Smoky, mineral, slightly aromatic, on paraffin, oil, wax, graphite, old peat smoke and some lime blossom. An old fashioned style of whisky with a mineral-graphite nose. Remarkably complex for its age.
Taste: Light, slightly dry, floral, aromatic, mineral, austere, on graphite, mineral oil, aromatic and slightly bitter herbs, with liquorice roots and old cigars. The complexity is stunning. The finish is medium to long, light, aromatic, mineral, on old engine oil, some bitter aromatic herbs from the Alps, old smoke, some soot and old peat smoke from a croft house.
Impression: What to say when tasting such an old whisky. Amongst the full range of the old Glen Mhor Mackinlay bottles at the Crane in Tokyo, the 6 YO was recommended to me and if all 6 year old whiskies where of a such quality, my shelves would be full of young whiskies! The complexity is impressive and the style rather unique and smells good the old style of whiskies, with graphite, old engine oil and aromatic slightly bitter herbs. I am glad I had the opportunity of tasting this one (and I understand better Neil Gunn as well).

Ardbeg 1976 for Velier, OB, 53.5%, B: 2002, cask 2396, 492 bottles. Price:
Colour: Amber
Nose: Very meaty, farmy, peaty, maritime, medicinal, on bacon, tar, soot, disinfectant, some seaweeds, cocoa, chocolate and bandages. Very intense and becoming very dry and peaty over time. Excellent.

Diluted, the flavours of cough syrup and eucalyptus are becoming stronger.
Impression: The nose was excellent, as the mouth feel, with a massive peat and tarry delivery. This whisky is complex, well balanced and impressive in intensity. The dryness and slight astringency coming from the cough syrup and some walnuts in the finish prevented me to give it the highest mark. As most Ardbeg 1976 from the cask 239X serie, this is an excellent sherried whisky.
